General information


Conference Venue

The 20th International Conference on Organic Chemistry will be held at the ELTE Congress Centre (Eötvös Loránd University, address: H-1117, Budapest, Pázmány Péter sétány 1/A.). The venue is equipped with a complete range of conference facilities. The entrance into the building is via the main gate at the Danube site (Buda side). The Danube flows north to south. ELTE Convention Centre

The ELTE Convention Centre (Eötvös Loránt University, address: H-1117 Budapest, Pázmány Péter sétány 1/A). The university was founded in 1635 by Cardinal Péter Pázmány (1570-1637) as a Catholic institution. In 1950 the University was renamed after Baron Loránd Eötvös (1848-1919), a professor of physics of considerable significance (due to his experimentation relating to the equivalence of gravitational and internal mass) and an eminent statesman.



Registration: Registration desk is situated in the ground level (NOTE: the ground level is the 0th floor). Registration will be started at 12.00 until 19.30 on  June 29,  2014. (see the pdf North building map which is enclosed this document)

Uploading of the oral presentations:
Authors of oral presentations are kindly requested to upload the presentation file to the PC installed in each lecture hall at last on the day before if the presentation is in the morning session or on the day of the presentation between 7:30 and 8:35 AM or in the 30 minutes following the last oral presentation of that day. At least one technician will be available in the lecture halls in the above-mentioned time periods.

Poster session: on the -1st floor and  Harmony Lecture Hall
Posters assigned with a code should be placed on the corresponding display boards. Posters will be on display during the entire conference. The poster display area (board) is 1.20 m high and 0.90 m wide.(Drawing) pins in order to fix the posters are available at the Registration Desk. The use of Scotch® is not allowed as it would damage the boards.

Internet access: Free WIFI access will be ensured in the conference rooms and in exhibition area and also in the circle aula. /ssid: ICOS-20  password: ELtEicos20 /

Language: The official language of the conference is English.

EGIS TOUR:  Sunday, 29 June 13:30-16:30 pm, registartion is necessary.
Bus start from and return to the building of the Eötvös Lóránd University (Conference venue)
Welcome party: Sunday, 20  June, 19:30 – 21:30 at ELTE on the 1st floor
Budapest Guided Tour: Tuesday, 01 July at 10:00 am for accompanying persons will be organized by bus. It starts from the Campus of ELTE.
Organ Concert: Wednesday, 02 July, 20:00 -, at Szent Anna Parish Church (H-1015 Budapest, Batthyány square 7)
Conference Dinner: Thursday, 03 July,  20.00 - 22.00 pm. The conference dinner will be held during an exciting boat trip on the river Danube with live music. The dinner is not included in the registration fee, registration is necessary.

Information for exhibitors
Installation of the exhibition area starts at 13:00 pm on June 29, 2014. Closing of the exhibition at 12:15 pm on July 04, 2014.

Arrival by air
All participants arriving at ‘Liszt Ferenc’ International Airport are advised to take the airport shuttle minibus to their hotels; this is the least expensive and most reliable service. You can find information about the Airport Shuttle Minibus (LRI) service on the following link: http://www.airportshuttle.hu/en  
Metropolitan bus No. 200E (http://www.bkv.hu/busz/200evissza.pdf) also leaves from the terminal building for Kőbánya-Kispest station, where you may take metro line No. 3 (blue line) to the centre of the city.
A high quality and fair passenger carrier service is running at Liszt Ferenc Airport, http://fotaxi.eu/?Language=en#main-menu whose fares are defined and limited by zones. Efficient and simple taxi ordering procedure characterizes this taxi company. The price is  appr. 20-25 Eur form Airport to Pest or Buda side.

Arrival by train
There are 3 major international railway stations in Budapest (Déli Railway station., Keleti Railway station. and Nyugati Railway station.), located in the city centre and within easy reach of the hotels or the Congress Center either by public transport or by taxi. Arrival by car
Budapest can be reached by car on motorways M1, M3, M5 and M7. Drivers should be aware that there is a zero tolerance of blood alcohol level while driving in Hungary. Parking is available at an open air parking area at the congress venue free of charge. Parking in the city centre is subject to fees.

Local transportation in Budapest
Public transport in the city is well organized. Tickets must be purchased in advance at metro stations or tobacco shops. During the ICOS-20, single tickets or Budapest Cards (free public transport, free sightseeing tour and other great discounts) will be available at the Registration Desk of the conference.
Whenever you change vehicle, validate a new ticket. One-day, three-day and weekly travel cards allowing free travel on all means of transportation within the administrative boundary of Budapest can be bought at each metro station for 1650 HUF, 4150 HUF and 4950 HUF, respectively. EU citizens over 65 years are allowed to travel for free on the vehicles of the public transport.
The conference site can be easily reached by public transport (e.g. trams No. 4 or 6) and it is fully accessible for disabled people. The tram stop corresponding to the congress venue is called “Petőfi híd, budai hídfő” (pdf Lágymányosi Campus Map). After getting off, turn your back at the river. Then, the Technical University campus is on your right, the campus of Eötvös University is on your left. Turn left and follow the pathway to the building at its end.

We suggest that you use only taxis equipped with a taximeter. Beware of private cabs, especially those without a taximeter. It is customary to give a tip of 10% over the amount of the bill at restaurants and in taxis. When you come with taxi to the Congress Center tell the driver to drop you at the gate on the Duna (Danube) side of the Northern Building (the one with the observatory on it). During the conference do not hesitate to call a taxi through the Hungarian Chemical Society at the Registration Desk.

Currency, exchange, credit cards
The official currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (HUF). Exchange facilities are offered to participants at the airport, in hotels, at the exchange desk of the banks at around the daily rate indicated by the Hungarian National Bank. American Express, Visa, Diners, Eurocard, Master Card and JCB Card are accepted in hotels, first class restaurants and city stores, but you should ask or look for the logo before ordering a service. Money can be withdrawn from ATMs. Three ATMs are available in the Chemistry building of the Eötvös Lóránd University.

Shopping hours
The usual shopping hours in Budapest are from 10:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m., in big shopping centers around the city up to 21:00 p.m. For further information please contact the Registration Desk.

Meals, lunch, refreshments
Coffee/Tea during the coffee breaks and lunch will be available free for the Registered Full Participants within the conference area. Vegetarian meal will be also served for those who indicated this need through the on-line registration system /www.icos20.hu/.

The Organizing Committee can not assume responsibility for injuries or losses occurring to persons or personal belongings during the conference. Participants are therefore advised to travel with a valid insurance package.

Electricity supply
In Hungary, electricity is supplied at 230 V, 50 Hz. The 2-pin connecting plug is different from that used in some other countries, e.g. the USA, the UK and Japan.

Smoking is NOT permitted inside the Congress buildings or at the venues for the social functions. Smokers are required to smoke outdoors in the designated area.

In consequence of Hungary’s continental climate, the end of June and beginning of July can be considered as summer. The average temperature is 22-28 °C during the day and 15-22 °C at night. The humidity is usually high and rainy days may be expected.
